- Step 1
Take 3 tbsp rice and 1 tbsp black urad dal, soak it for 2 hours, grind it to a paste, ferment it overnight and keep aside.

Take 1 tbsp tur dal, boil it and keep aside.
- Step 3
To make the sambhar, heat 2 tsp oil in a frying pan and add 1/2 tsp rai.
- Step 4
Once the rai is crackling, add 4 kadi patta, 2 whole red chillies, 1/2 tsp haldi, 1/2 tsp red chilli powder and 1 tbsp sambhar powder.
- Step 5
Further add 1/4th cup julienne onion, 1/4th cup diced tomato, 1 diced drumstick, 2 tbsp chopped carrot, 2 tbsp chopped brinjal, 2 tbsp chopped pumpkin and sauté.
- Step 6
Sprinkle 1/2 tsp salt and pour in the previously boiled tur dal.
- Step 7
Mix well, cover and allow it to cook for a few more minutes. Keep aside.

To make the batter, take a mixing bowl to add the previously fermented paste of rice and urad dal, 1 tbsp chopped onion, 2 tsp chopped tomato, 1 tbsp chopped capsicum and 1/2 tsp chopped coriander leaves.
- Step 9
To make the appe, brush the moulds with little oil and fill the moulds with batter.
- Step 10
Cover and allow it to cook.
- Step 11
Once one side is cooked, flip and cook the other side as well.
- Step 12
Serve hot with sambhar.
