Surmai Fish Curry Recipe

Spicy surmai fish curry with coconut and tamarind is a traditional Indian recipe of western coastal area.This recipe makes a soul soothing weeknight dinner when served with rice or chapatti.

2.0 Number(110.0 gm) Surmai
2.0 Tbsp(23.0 ml) Coconut Milk
2.0 Chopped Tsp(2.0 gm) Coriander Leaves
1/2 Tsp(3.0 gm) Ginger Garlic Paste
1/2 Tsp(2.0 gm) Tamarind
1/2 Powder Tsp(1.0 gm) Red Chilly
1/4 Tsp(0.6 gm) Haldi
1/4 Tsp(1.0 gm) Salt
1.0 Tbsp(8.0 ml) Oil
50.0 Ml(50.0 ml) Water
  • Take 2 surmai fish pieces, add 1/4 tsp red chilly powder, 1/8 tsp haldi, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp tamarind pulp, 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste and marinate the fish pieces.

  • In a pan heat 1 tbsp oil.

  • Add marinated fish pieces and shallow fry it until cooked.

  • To the pan, add water, 1/4 tsp red chilly powder, 1/8 tsp haldi and let it simmer, 1.5 tbsp coconut milk and allow it to simmer.

  • Sprinkle 2 tsp chopped coriander leaves, mix and cook well.

  • Serve hot with rice.
