Puli Keerai (Tamrind Spinach Curry) Recipe

Puli Keerai is a quick dish that can be prepared in minimum time on a busy day. The spinach that is used gives good amount of iron to the body. This can be packed even for lunch.

1/2 Cup(27.0 gm) Palak (Chopped)
2 Tbsp(16.0 gm) Onion (Chopped)
2 Tbsp(25.0 gm) Tomato (Chopped)
1 No.(0.75 gm) Red Chilly
1/4 Tsp(0.93 gm) Rai
1/2 Tbsp(7.0 gm) Tamarind
1/4 Tsp(1.0 gm) Salt
1 Tsp(3.0 ml) Oil
As Required(100.0 ml) Water
  • In a kadhai, heat 1 tsp oil.

  • Add 1/4th tsp rai and 2 tbsp chopped onion. Mix and allow to cook.

  • Once the onions turn translucent, add 1 red chilli, 2 tbsp chopped tomato and mix well.

  • Then add 1/2 cup chopped palak and sauté well.

  • When the palak has reduced in volume, add 1/2 tbsp tamrind pulp, water as required and stir.

  • Finally add 1/4th tsp salt and let it simmer.

  • Serve hot with chapati.
