Mutton Masala Recipe

Mutton masala is delicious, soft tender chunks of lamb meat in heavily spiced onion tomato gravy. This is a generic Indian mutton recipe, but one can add up regional flavorings to match up your taste buds.

  • Heat 1.5 tsp oil in a deep kadhai.

  • Add some dry spices, 2 black pepper, 1 black elaichi, 1 green elaichi, 1/4 stick cinnamon, 1 star anise, 1/2 bay leaf, 2 cloves, and 1/4 tsp jeera roast till aromatic.

  • Add 3 tbsp chopped onion, and saute till translucent.

  • Now, add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, 1/4 tsp red chilly powder, 1/4 tsp haldi, 1/4 tsp dry mango powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp garam masala and fry the spices well on low heat.

  • Saute till it starts to leave oil.

  • Add water to adjust consistency, stir well and allow to simmer.

  • Add cooked mutton to the gravy, and cover with a lid.

  • Allow to cook on low to medium heat.

  • Garnish with 1 tsp chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with naan or chapatti.
