Khatti Dal Recipe

Dal is a one of the best known sources of proteins for vegetarians. This is a simple, tangy and wholesome dish as we get the goodness in a single bowl of dal. Served with phuilka, parantha or rice.

0.13 Cup(27.0 gm) Tur Dal
1.0 Chopped Tbsp(8.0 gm) Onion
1.0 Chopped Tbsp(13.0 gm) Tomato
1.0 Tsp(5.0 gm) Tamarind
3.0 Number(0.33 gm) Kadi Patta
1/4 Powder Tsp(0.54 gm) Red Chilly
1/4 Tsp(0.6 gm) Haldi
1/2 Tsp(1.0 gm) Jeera
1/4 Tsp(1.0 gm) Salt
1.0 Tsp(3.0 ml) Oil
70.0 Ml(70.0 ml) Water
  • In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil, add cumin seeds, and 3 leaves of kadi patta and let it crackle.

  • Add 1 tbsp each of chopped onion and tomato.

  • Saute all the ingredients well.

  • Then, add 1/4th tsp each of haldi, red chilli powder and salt and saute.

  • Add the cooked tur dal and 1tsp tamarind paste and mix well.

  • Sprinkle some black sesame seeds on top and khatti dal is ready to be served.
