Kaali Dal Recipe

Dal is one of the best known sources of proteins for vegetarians. This is a simple and wholesome dish as we get the goodness of so many pulses in a single bowl of kali dal. Served with phuilka, parantha or rice.

1/4 Cup(53.0 gm) Urad Dal
2.0 Chopped Tbsp(25.0 gm) Tomato
2.0 Chopped Tbsp(12.0 gm) Onion
1/2 Chopped Tsp(1.0 gm) Garlic
1/4 Chopped Tsp(0.53 gm) Green Chilli
1/2 Tsp(1.0 gm) Jeera
1/4 Powder Tsp(0.54 gm) Red Chilly
1/4 Tsp(0.6 gm) Haldi
1/4 Tsp(0.74 gm) Hing
0.13 Tsp(0.56 gm) Salt
1.0 Tsp(3.0 ml) Oil
100.0 Ml(100.0 ml) Water
  • In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil, add 1/2 tsp jeera and let it crackle.

  • Add 1/2 tsp chopped garlic, 1/4 tsp chopped green chilli, 1.5 tbsp chopped onion and 2 tbsp chopped tomato.

  • Saute all the ingredients well.

  • Then, add 1/4 tsp each of hing, haldi, and red chilli powder and stir well to blend spices into the mix.

  • Add the cooked urad dal and sufficient water and mix well.

  • Sprinkle on some white sesame seeds on top and kaali dal is ready to be served.
