Children look forward to their break time in school where they can freely play, talk and eat together. The excitement of looking into one’s own tiffin and sharing it with friends has its own charm. Moreover, children are so hungry by their break time that as a mum, I feel we can experiment fully with these noon-time meals.
Here are a few A+ lunch recipes for your child!
#1. Spinach Aloo Kachori + Thick Cucumber Raita
Spinach paste (2 tbsp)
Flour (2 cups)
Boiled potato (2-3 whole)
Chaat masala (A pinch)
Garam masala (A pinch)
Amchur powder (A pinch)
Salt (to taste)
Add some salt and 2 tablespoons of spinach paste to flour.
Knead it into a dough and keep aside. Take 2-3 boiled and peeled potatoes. Mash and mix all the masalas.
Heat oil in a kadhai. Take small balls, roll and fill them up with the aloo masala.
Roll them into small pooris and deep fry them.
#2. Nutri-Corn Pulao + Fruit Salad
Soaked rice (1 cup)
Soy chunks [boiled] (½ cup)
Boiled corn (¼ cup)
Sliced onion (1 whole)
Jeera, garam masala, salt
Put 2 tablespoons of oil in a pressure cooker. Add a pinch of jeera seeds and the onion slices. Fry them until golden in colour.
Now, add boiled soy chunks and corn to the pressure cooker and stir-fry it. Put garam masala and salt according to taste.
Add soaked rice and mix. Put 2 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Match it with fruit salad or fruit cream.
#3. Rawa Vegetable Idlis + Banana cake
Rawa (1 cup)
Curd (½ cup)
Put rawa, curd and water in a bowl and mix. Consistency should be thick. Add all the chopped vegetables and salt. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
Grease the idli stand with oil and pour the batter. Steam for 15 minutes. Serve with coconut chutney.
Match it with a slice of banana cake to take care of your child’s sweet tooth!
#4. Mushroom Cheese Sandwich + Roasted Makhana (fox nuts) & Peanuts
Cheese cubes [grated] (2-3)
Black pepper powder (A pinch)
Salt according to taste
Butter (1 tsp)
Bread Slices (4)
Chop mushrooms into small pieces. Grate cheese cubes. Mix together. Add salt and black pepper. Spread butter on the bread slices and fill the mixture.
You can put it in the griller or shallow fry it in a pan. Serve with tomato ketchup.
Match it with roasted makhana and peanuts!
#5. Paneer Parantha + Boondi Raita
Paneer (½ cup)
Flour (1 cup)
Chopped onion (½)
Salt according to taste
Boondi (2 tsp)
Mash paneer. Add chopped onions, salt and black pepper, as per taste.
Roll the dough into small balls and fill in the paneer. Roll and make parathas.
Smoothen some curd using an egg beater. Add a little bit of water.
Add salt, black pepper and boondi. Mix well.
Sprinkle some cumin powder over it.
